Volunteer Tutors or Homework Helpers
Provide extra help and attention to students. Working under the direct supervision of KYDS staff, volunteer tutors provide valuable support and assistance to help children succeed academically. This is a good match for retired teachers and college students. We ask Volunteer Tutors to commit to tutoring a minimum of 2 hours each week for at least 8 weeks.

Volunteer Coaches
Offer motivation, fitness/sports instruction, and assist with supervision. We ask Volunteer Coaches to commit to a minimum of 2 hours each week for at least 8 weeks.

Volunteer Enrichment Instructors
Share your expertise by leading specialized activities for students, generally, once or twice per week. This is a good match for dancers, yoga instructors, musicians, etc. We ask Volunteer Instructors to commit to a minimum of 60 minutes per week for at least 6 weeks.

Volunteer Program Presenters Lead a “one time” presentation or workshop.

Service Learning Hours for High School Students
Opportunities are available at many KYDS after school programs and occasionally at our administrative offices in Van Nuys. Parent permission is required for students under the age of 18, along with a completed volunteer application. A valid High School Student ID card will exempt students age 17 and under from the criminal background check and certification of negative TB status requirements.

Make a Donation

Financial contributions, donations or professional services, new goods and certain lightly used items are gratefully accepted! We have children on waiting lists for many of our programs. A gift of only $900 allows one child to participate in KYDS after school programs everyday for an entire school year!
